Choosing between Auragami Elements and Auragami Gen 2

When it comes to flexible LED backlighting, Evo-Lite continues to lead the way with innovative solutions tailored to meet diverse project needs. Two of our most versatile light sheet options in the market are Auragami Elements (AG1E) and Auragami Gen 2 (AG2/AG2B).

If you’re looking for the latest and greatest, choose our flagship Auragami Gen 2 Light Sheet – which delivers a variety of exclusive innovations. If you’re looking for a more streamlined option that can help you keep a handle on project costs yet still deliver professional results, opt for the Auragami Elements Light Sheet.

Both sheets are designed for maximum adaptability, offering exceptional performance in a wide range of applications – from architectural accents to commercial displays. While they share several core benefits, they’re tailored to serve different needs. In this blog, we’ll break down their similarities, highlight key differences, and help guide you toward the ideal solution for your next project.

How are AG1E and AG2/AG2B similar?

Auragami Heritage: Both light sheets derive from Evo-Lite’s award-winning Auragami family, offering unmatched field cuttable, UL-listed flexible LED sheets in single-color white, tunable white (1800-6500K), and RGBW (5000K) variants.

Streamlined Installation: Both light sheets are equipped with adhesive 3M backing and predrilled mounting holes, enabling fast, efficient installations with minimal tools.

High Efficiency: Designed with performance in mind, each solution delivers 100 lumens per watt, making them ideal for projects where energy savings and visual quality go hand in hand.

Cuttable Flexibility: With horizontal, vertical, and diagonal cut lines – even down to individual LEDs / LED groups – all sheets maintain UL compliance when trimmed, offering unparalleled design freedom without sacrificing safety.

What are the differences?

LED Pitch

• AG2 features 256 LEDs spaced at 0.75” apart.
• AG2B features 64 LEDs spaced at 1.5” apart.
• AG1E features 288 LEDs spaced at 0.79" apart

LED pitch refers to the distance between individual diodes and directly impacts how smoothly light diffuses across a surface. Tighter spacing results in quicker blending and a more uniform glow, even at close range. Wider spacing typically requires more diffusion – either through spatial and/or material diffusion.

If your project demands compact lighting systems with minimal spacing, AG2 or AG1E are ideal due to their tighter pitch. Conversely, AG2B offers a more cost-effective solution when space allows for deeper diffusion layers. Regardless of pitch, material translucency and environmental conditions vary – so testing is essential for achieving the best visual outcome.

Material Support

AG2 & AG2B: The patented Auragami Quad Bumpers come in two sizes to ensure compatibility across the AG2/AG2B product line. The larger size is specifically designed to accommodate the wider LED spacing on the AG2B sheet. The two size Quad Bumpers are rated to support up to 1600 lbs each. Each bumper includes a silicone adhesive backing and screw mounting hole for easy sheet application

AG1E uses Evo-Lite’s standard light sheet bumpers. Unlike the quad bumpers, the standard bumpers are individual bumpers that are each rated to support up to 400LBS each. Each bumper includes silicone adhesive backing for easy sheet application.

Environment & IP ratings

AG2: Is built for durability and protection. It features an ultra-thick conformal coating that enhances resistance to physical damage and moisture intrusion. Its IP67-rated connections eliminate moisture ingress, prevent corrosion, and ensure a secure fit that won’t disconnect unintentionally.

AG2B: is IP20 rated and intended for use in dry environments only. It retains the original Auragami light sheet’s XHP connectors, which are user-friendly and widely used across many light sheet products on the market.

AG1E: Features and IP65 rating for both dry and wet locations. Like AG2B, AGE retains the original Auragami light sheet’s XHP connectors.

Specialized Lensed Options

Another key distinction is the lensed AG2B light sheet, a single-color white option featuring a 175 ° lens over each LED to enhance light distribution. Delivering 850 lumens per square foot, this design improves blending – making it particularly effective with AG2B’s wider LED pitch. By spreading light more efficiently, the lens allows for fewer LEDs without compromising performance, helping reduce overall cost. Lensed sheets should only be installed on flat surfaces, as the lenses must remain level to maintain proper beam alignment. Curved applications can distort the beam angle, leading to uneven illumination or color shifting.

Conclusion

Whether your priority is premium performance in challenging conditions or scalable affordability for large installations, Evo-Lite’s Auragami lineup offers a tailored solution. AG2 delivers best-in-class durability, LED density, and heavy-duty support, ideal for precision-driven, high-end applications. AG1E provides a smart middle ground with strong performance and environmental resilience at a more accessible price point. And for projects where budget is key and conditions are predictable, AG2B remains a reliable and efficient choice.

Whatever your vision, Evo-Lite is here to help you bring it to light.
